WOW! 2009 is quickly coming to and end and we have just experienced a great conference put on by SCPRA and graciously hosted by the Department of Archives and History which was a feat in itself considering the current state of the economy and the recent budget cuts that hit the majority of our membership this year. I want to start by acknowledging Sherry Villeponteaux and her work over the past two years as the outgoing President of SCPRA. She is a hard act to follow and her experience and knowledge has already been invaluable to me as I begin my duties as your next President. I am fully committed to investing in SCPRA’s most valuable resource–you, our members. We cannot be successful in accomplishing our Mission without a strong and valued membership. Through our Region Administrators, Program Coordinators and Membership Coordinators, I am looking to new strategies to recruit, develop and strengthen, and retain the diverse and highly skilled membership needed to execute the goals of SCPRA that is vital to our Association. However, these officers cannot do it all by themselves. They need the assistance of each Region member. Let me encourage each of you to look inward and determine how you can be of help to your Region. Contact your Region officers and let them know where and how you can help. Thank you, Andrew Bigony - President |

Pat Sowell has been awarded the 2009 Lindy Smith Distinguished Service Award for the performances of extraordinary service. His service has contrubuted directly to the success and well-being of SCPRA. Pat Sowell has been supporting The Annual Conference with audio visual equipment for many years. It is difficult to estimate how many thousands of dollars this has saved SCPRA from having to pay rental fees. He usually arrives early with his vehicle loaded with computers, printers, projectors, screens, sound systems, and additional backup equipment. His technical support has been invaluable in contributing to successful conferences and making us look good in the eyes of the membership. He has also graciously given his time to participate in the training programs at the annual conference by conducting presentations which always drew favorable comments from the audience. Pat has worked diligently on the SCPRA Program Committee for several years, especially at the planning sessions where again he has furnished computer and printer equipment, along with technical support. On many occassions, he has had to take vacation time in order to participate in the planning session were he usually was instrumental in developing the PowerPoint presentations of the Program Committee's recommendation to the Board of Directors. Pat Sowell has done all these things in an unselfish manner, never complaining, often under intense pressure to meet deadlines. Pat has been a member of SCPRA since 10/19/1999 and has served as a member of the Board of Directors for two terms, a total of four years. His tenure on the Board is remembered by his logical ideas, and his serving as webmaster contributed in a large way to the success and growth of our association. Pat Sowell epitomizes the type of dedicated service that the "Lindy Smith Distinguished Service Award" stands for. |
